A new production hall spanning one thousand square meters will shorten turnaround times for projects, equipment deliveries, and maintenance services while further improving Tormets’ energy efficiency.
The new hall, set to be operational before the year-end, provides ample space for lifting and maneuvering large equipment assemblies. The hall measures 50 meters in length and 20 meters in width. The ten-ton overhead crane has a lifting height of up to seven and a half meters. The assembly line can simultaneously accommodate, for example, two 24-meter conveyor sections.

The new hall aligns with the plans and objectives of Production Manager Joonas Mykkälä. The production spaces are easily reconfigurable, which also saves the customer time and costs.
“The hall is primarily used for sub-assemblies of equipment ordered by industry and outfitting of large load-bearing sections, preparations for the piping side, and equipment maintenance that cannot be efficiently performed in factories’ and mines’ own production facilities. Here we have clean, bright, and easily reconfigurable spaces for the work to be performed. Work can be done efficiently and precisely when working conditions are proper and all necessary tools and supplies are within reach, with the entire process under the control of a digital production management system,” explains Production Manager Joonas Mykkälä.
Flexible Production Spaces Save Time and Environment
Equipment manufactured and serviced for industry varies greatly in size, shape, and weight, which has been considered in the hall’s design from the beginning.
“The hall will have a few fixed workstations, but most of the hall’s floor area will remain configurable according to the work object so that equipment assembly and maintenance proceed as efficiently as possible,” Mykkälä describes.

The thousand-square-meter hall is very energy-efficient considering its size and purpose.
The hall is heated with district heating. Thanks to tight walls, heat loss remains minimal, making the new hall very energy-efficient relative to its volume and functions.
“When projects can be implemented from a clean slate – or in this case, from the floor up – work phases can be planned and executed so that time, energy, and materials are wasted as little as possible. This is Tormets’ practical lean operation, through which we save the environment, energy, and our customers’ time and money,” states Joonas Mykkälä.
